TOURISTS VISITING COLUMBUS ARRESTED!!!
A couple from Birmingham, site-seeing along the Chattahoochee River Walk with their 2 week old baby got trapped on some rocks and had to be rescued by safety officials. The couple was subsequently arrested after being brought to safety for violating Columbus GA city ordinance 14.45 which states, Its unlawful for any person to be in the river without a personal floatation device. Its a distinct difference from being trapped by rising water from a damn you knew nothing about and swimming in the river. What couple would knowingly put their baby in danger? I feel sorry for this young couple and I can't help to ask myself, what if they where related to an infuential person in politics or law enforcement would they still have gotten arrested? We all know the answer to that is NO!!! A soldier drowned several days before while swimming in the river and the sensationalism from that tragic incident spilled over to this couple unfortunate course of events. I visited the river yesterday after the story broke to interview a couple people to get there opinion. Besides Kayakers, I saw no individuals alongside the river wearing personal floatation devices. Judge for yourself and stop relying on one-sided bias coverage. You determine yourself whether or no they should be persecuted by law-enforcement for breaking city ordinance 14 45. I actually interviewed a young man who is part of the rescue and I interviewed a couple of people asking them how do they feel about the law. Why you guys are in the bed, on your phones scrolling through Facebook, I went down to the river myself to get the facts. The Ledger gave you guys a couple paragraphs and you ran with it. The article talked about the soldier who drowned more than the couple who was stranded. Its a distinct difference in those two cases being that the soldier was swimming in the river, the couple got stranded on the rocks. Watch the video yourself then let's debate should the couple being prosecuted. I am starting to believe that people don't even care about the truth anymore. We all our programmed by the Internet, TV and Radio. It's common for a person to see something on the news or read something in a paper and believe it to be fact. Quality and vetted news has been replaced with who can get the story out the quickest. Plagiarism is rapid and reporters often just copy and paste when it comes to a story instead of getting in the streets and figuring out the facts.
